Move to Cambodia: Start a Blog

When you move to Cambodia, your internet location will change entirely, so writing farm websites like Textbroker, iWriter, and Fiverr may no longer be effective for you due to the country-specific restrictions. I saved up a fair amount of money, trusted in my writing ability, and came to Siem Reap without much of a plan at all, believing I would sort things out when I got here. This is part of why I started this blog. It hasn’t been easy, but I’m making it work. I live off just five dollars a day, everything is budgeted to the last cent, I treat myself to one burger a week, and I’ve spent countless hours learning how to build this website.

Why? Because finding a job in the West from Cambodia isn’t simple, and I want to share the beauty of this place with others anyway. I do feel that many others would want to move to Cambodia, if they just heard a bit about it. If I want to survive here, even though the stakes are low, I know I need to create a platform. I need to build a website. So, that’s exactly what I’m doing. And thank you for visiting. Also, sorry about the Ads. I hope to remove them some day, but at the moment, they are much needed.

I aim to connect the world with Cambodia, and Cambodia is eager to connect with you too. English is widely spoken here, and the country is making significant efforts to attract tourism to this wonderful place. However, since the COVID-19 pandemic, they have faced considerable challenges. For example, Thailand allocated 5 billion baht (about $150 million) in 2023 to boost tourism after the pandemic shutdown (thethaiger.com). Meanwhile, Cambodia’s government allocated $40 million in 2021 to support tourism recovery, a much smaller figure compared to Thailand’s (cambodianess.com).

This difference in funding is largely due to Cambodia’s more limited financial resources compared to Thailand, leading to greater challenges in regaining tourism levels.

Thailand is wonderful, I am a huge fan, and I am definitely not here to say anything bad about it, but Cambodia is just as nice! Nicer, depending on what you want out of a living or tourist destination. They simply don’t have the money to promote themselves. And that is part of what this website aims to do. They need your tourism, you want to get out, it’s a win/win.
